  • You are the supervisor or manager of a department in an organization?

Posted by admin on February 8th, 2010 and filed under leadership organization | 1 Comment »

You are the supervisor or manager of a department in an organization. In this leadership position’ you are liked by some employees and disliked by many others. How would you handle the negative comments or criticisms from the people who dislike you?

Remind myself (and them if I had to) that I’m not paid to be liked. My paycheck is based on supervising/managing the work for the company. If these employees were my "friends" before I was promoted they’d have to understand my JOB specs have changed not my FEELINGS towards them as people. If they can’t get with that…oh well…friends don’t pay the bills.

I have an art gallery that I’d like to turn into a non-profit organization to support a certain type of artist. Currently it is incorporated and I’d like to use the same name and turn it into a non-profit. I have years built into the name Identity and would prefer not to have to change it Any suggestions at all would be so appreciated. Thank you.

First, contact your state’s Secretary of State office. They handle corporation filings and can tell you what you need to do to change your status based on the laws of your state. Check to see if your Secretary of State has a website. Many have websites with a wealth of information as well as downloadable forms.

After that, look to the irs.gov website. They have a whole section on nonprofits as well as all the forms you’ll need in pdf format which you can print right off the web.

why is leadership important to managing people and organizations?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under leadership organization | 1 Comment »

In your opinion, experience, why is leadership important to managing people and organizations

Often times people will come to their manager to resolve issues and give direction regarding which path to follow. A good manager listens and evaluates each option objectively and leads the "troops" down the chosen path. Wavering or uncertainty does not instill confidence and is not a good trait for a leader and the manager may lose respect.

What is the most effective organization working to stop climate change?

I’d like to make a donation of a couple hundred dollars and want it to go to the most effective place.

Climate change can’t be stopped by any organization, but will only happen if the public do their part.

I would suggest you find out what you can do to help stop climate change and use the money on that. For instance you could install solar panels or buy a bicycle and use your car less.

how do you identify communication problems within the organization without upseting people?

Posted by admin on February 6th, 2010 and filed under organization communication | 3 Comments »

I’m in a school setting where communication skills should be excellent. Before the start of every school year, the personnel are given a written test in grammar and comprehension. Through it, we identify those that need close monitoring and mentoring. Then they are put in an enrichment program for faculty/staff development. The rest undergo a required speech improvement program done monthly. Since these programs are part of the staff development, they do not realize that problems have been identified (and they are part of the problem) and these are being addressed in a manner that is not upsetting nor embarrassing.
