Why managers need to understand the strategic management process in the organization strategy and project selection?

The projects an organization undertakes must be in line with the organization’s strategy. Thus, project selection is influenced, even controlled by the organization’s strategy.
In an organization that does most of its business in form of projects, strategy development together with the strategic management process govern project selection.
Therefore, mutual understanding of project managers and line managers of the strategic management process and the project management process becomes vital for the organization’s success.
