This happens all the time in information systems; there are so many effects of changes that they must be strictly controlled so there are no bad consequences.

Since I am in a class that has asked me of this very question, I will limit myself and all my answers. Sorry for this, but I see it as only fair to you and your learning.
But to some what answer your question " what are some specific techniques that can be used to manage change in an organization?" Here is what I have found and have come across.
You and or your team/company could use what is called a Matrix structure and or chart. A Matrix chart is a chart that assigns everyone in a certain department to a specific role (Robbins & Coulter, 2007) i.e. finance would be in charge of budgets, payroll etc… Then the rest of the company would be the same. They could also use the Decision-making process, which consists of 8 steps that include identifying a problem, selecting an alternative, and evaluating the decision’s effectiveness.
I suggest that you find this book, if you don’t already have it; Management by stephen p. robbins & mary coulter 2007 9th edition
