I noticed that Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco flourished in their rookie seasons because they have a great supporting cast in the falcons rushing game and with the baltimore defense.
With what you’ve seen in Stafford’s college performances, can he do the same without a great rushing attack and a semi good linebacker corps?
No, Ryan and Flacco were both put in good situations. Ryan had Turner to run the ball and they had a decent offensive line. Flacco played on a team that wasn’t going to allow him to cost them games, his job was to hand the ball off and let the defense do the rest.
The problem for Stafford is that the Lions aren’t very good at anything. It was a mistake naming him the starter for the 1st game, because he doesn’t give you the best opportunity to win games now. I see the Lions breaking Tampa’s record of consecutive losses (26).

Yes, but let me qualify that answer. It won’t be him alone. It will be the sweeping changes that have taken place throughout the organization. From the Office to the practice field, this team is in transition. Whether for the good or the bad (hard to imagine it getting worse), that team is changing. Besides, he has already increased the expectations of many.
Bottom line… I think he already has, along with all the other changes there in Detroit.
(By the way, I see them improving their record from last year by at least 2-3 wins….)

No, I don’t think so. I think it’ll be Joey Harrington part two, except I think Harrington is better. Poor Culpepper, he worked so hard and obviously outplayed Stafford (who played against virtually no starters) who didn’t do all that good. He’s got no pass protection. Sure, he can fling it out there and Calvin Johnson could probably make some plays (and I think Johnson will make Stafford look much better than he is, and make the Pro Bowl this year, he was snubbed last year). They also have a possible franchise running back in Kevin Smith, and their backups don’t look all that bad either.
They did work on their defense a little, which was the problem last year, they allowed way too many points to be a division contender. They’re offense was actually pretty good I saw them put up some decent numbers, and I definitely don’t think they’ll go winless again (I still can’t believe it happened, they weren’t as bad as their record indicates). I’ll put them at about 4-5 wins.
