  • Nonviolent Communication Part 1 Marshall Rosenberg

Posted by admin on December 7th, 2009 and filed under organization communication | 25 Comments »

Marshall Rosenberg created Nonviolent Communication and is Founder and Director of Educational Services for the Center for Nonviolent Communication, an international non-profit organization based in California.

Dr Rosenberg talks about Teilhard de Chardin’s theories of human evolution which sought to return to a more natural way – one where no-one advances at the expense of another. He speaks of his own experiences working with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and how enriching the lives of others is the most rewarding work mankind can engage in.

Marshall Rosenberg is so very cool.

      “Are our needs …
“Are our needs being met? And if not what can we do so that everyone’s needs get met” That’s the language of non-violent communication.

Invaluable work, thank you so much for this video Dr. Rosenberg. I got so much clarity.

What do you mean by …
What do you mean by “relative needs”?

Need is one of those basic words, I noticed that it’s not too easy to define. I guess you could define “need” as a sense of lacking something you want or long for. But why exactly did you ask for a definition? Was something unclear because of a lack of definition?

If you want to throw gernades into crowds, it’s going to cause suffering. he wants to cause those people to suffer, because he doesn’t want to stop throwing those gernades. What is suffering? you might want the gernade thrower to suffer the penalty of not throwing gernades. Why, why do you want him to suffer? why the doctor asks. morons.

    9. nVei06 Says:

this guys is not talking about the truth, he talking about what he wants you to believe. Are there more than one reason for people to want to cause people to suffer? LEt’s see, if you want an innocent person to suffer. what is innocent? This is a banned word from the doctor. You can make somene suffer by accident.

      you see this kind …
you see this kind of language in classrooms across the country…. teachers have a very little chance to change this as the media/tv programs and even our society make this kind of language an acceptable every day thing… I feel that if we could just talk and demonstrate love as a society including the media and tv programs it would really extinct this kind of language.

Very interesting, it reminds me of “Ontology of language” by Rafael Echeverría; Paul Watzlawick; harvard’s negotiation model (Ury William and others), and Buddhism, specially when he talks about “a compassioante way”. Ury William use the terms “positions” and “interests”, what you have to look for are the “interests behind the positions”, which are the needs that Rosenberg is talking about. I haven’t read anything from Rosenberg, so may be I’m wrong, but I’m very interest for further reading.

I have syudied communication all of my life, never have I been more excited about a new way to connect than with this method. It works, it is timely. This is the time for this to work. I have used NVC or Commpassionate Communication for 8 years now. My husband and I thought we had the best connection. Now, we know it can always get better!! My work in mediation enjoys success with these tools in use. Empathy, something we are all hungry for. What is empathy? Marshall knows and will tell you!
