  • Development & Peace: Canada’s Catholic Abortion Scandal

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under organization development | 25 Comments »

In 2009, investigative reporters from LifeSiteNews.com discovered a widespread scandal with the funding practices of the Canadian Catholic Organization For Development and Peace (CCODP). This official agency of the Canadian Catholic Bishops has been funding pro-abortion groups. Watch this video to see the undeniable evidence of pro-abortion and contraception advocacy. The CCODP continues to deny any and all wrongdoing in the funding of these “partners” and their abortion-advocacy. If you want to learn more about the CCODP abortion scandal, visit our Development & Peace feature-page where we have over 50 news articles detailing discoveries of pro-abortion funding by D&P in South & Central America, Asia and Africa: http://www.lifesitenews.com/features/DevelopmentPeace/

      Your comments are …
Your comments are utterly misleading. As you know, Development and Peace doesnt fund groups and organizations. It funds projects. When it provides funding for a certain project, the money is spent on that particular project and not on other issues, project the organization may or may not be involved.

    2. newsreader60 Says:

      Since you are …
Since you are commenting on a Canadian organization, I presume you are Canadian. Did you stop taking your child to a doctor in Canada? If not, you must know that each time you do so you are supporting morally and financially an organization (Canada Health) that supports and provides abortion.

    3. rosouljah Says:

      All this is illegal …
      All this is illegal!

In the town of Trujillo, soldiers took the streets and did not allowing citizens to vote in the opinion poll. In Santa Rosa, soldiers reportedly under the orders of the Federal Prosecutors Office seized ballot boxes from schools and public places. Also, soldiers seized ballot boxes in Dulce Nombre Copan as well. If the US military did this during an election in the USA would you consider that democratic??? Please!!!!!!

    4. rosouljah Says:

      Is this what you …
Is this what you call illegal?? Hondurans were supposed to register their opinion in a non-binding poll that asked them, “Do you think that the November 2009 general elections should include a fourth ballot box in order to make a decision about the creation of a National Constitutional Assembly that would approve a new Constitution?” The poll would have had no legal weight.

    5. rosouljah Says:

      Illegal! …
Illegal! Kidnapping the President and the ambasadors of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua as well as many cabinet ministers is illegal. The coup was led by Gen. Romeo Vasquez, a graduate of the US Army School of the Americas. As we know very well from history, these graduates maintain ties to the US military as they climb the military career ladders in their respective countries. That is a major reason why the US trains these individuals. US intervention in LA all over again!

    6. robertson1285 Says:

      Overall, a good …
Overall, a good video. But the voicing by actors is just lame and makes it look less credible (even if it shouldn’t, it does).

Oh and “Latin American” should be capitalized.

    7. NReily89 Says:

      Why don’t you …
Why don’t you answer why Venezuela is threatening Honduras whose own people, party, and supreme court declared what their President was doing without legislative authority was illegal? You don’t want to answer that and just speak in platitudes of “the rich and the poor” and Bishop Romero like a blind parrot. I trust the Bishop in Venezuela rather than someone who is giving cover for grant money being given to groups that are okay with Abortion. So what’s your job title in D & P again?

    8. rosouljah Says:

      Cardinal Rosalio …
Cardinal Rosalio Castillo Lara said to journalists on Oct. 22 that Venezuelans ought to “deny recognition” to the Chavez government and organize civil
disobedience against it because it is “ill-fated and dangerous”.

Sounds like this Cardinal is insighting violence to me. It is well known that in LA there is a church of the rich and one of the poor. I live that reality whenever I visit LA. I see it with my own eyes. Bishop Romero recognized it too and they took his life for it.

    9. rosouljah Says:

      In Venezuela voter …
In Venezuela voter turn out is more than 70% and not just for the president. There are regular referendums held. Chavez submits to the vote of the people. The right-wing are the ones that create the violence. Read more than the headlines and research the reality and not just what supports your ideology. Who’s the real blind one?

Address the issue of US intervention in Latin America or are you incapable of doing so? I’d love to hear what you have to say about historical facts.

    10. rosouljah Says:

      As proven, there is …
As proven, there is a long history of US intervention in Latin America. The US should stop trying to defend its economic interests and allow the people of the Global South to create their our own economic and political systems for their benefit. The US should stop raping the resources of the Global South for the benefit of people like you to consume everything in sight and destroy the planet at the same time. Free Market principles lead to high mass consumption, it’s killing us all.

    11. NReily89 Says:

      Chavez now having …
Chavez now having no term limitations is true democracy? Turning the media into a state run operation is true democracy? The increase in violence and hostility as reported by the Head of the Venezuelan Bishops Conference itself is true Democracy? Many of our Bishops and Priests will probably die for being critical of this “true democracy” and you obviously don’t care. This is sick.

    12. rosouljah Says:

      That’s not all. …
That’s not all. The Truman Doctrine is a set of principles of U.S. foreign policy declared by President Harry S. Truman on March 12, 1947 in which Truman declared that as leader of the “free world” the United States must support freedom-loving peoples wherever communism threatened them. This was used as the basis for intervention in Latin America, which continued to uphold U.S. economic interest and contribute to the domination of land by large foreign corporations, e.g. United Fruit Company.

    13. rosouljah Says:

      Then came the …
Then came the Roosevelt Corollary, which was a substantial amendment to the Monroe Doctrine by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904. Roosevelt’s extension of the Monroe Doctrine asserted the right of the United States to intervene to stabilize the economic affairs of Latin American states and the Caribbean.

How much longer will the US mess up Latin America. The historical perpective proves you are wrong.

    14. rosouljah Says:

      The Monroe Doctrine …
The Monroe Doctrine asserted that the Western Hemisphere was not to be further colonized by European countries, but also that the United States would not interfere with existing European colonies nor in the internal concerns of European countries. The Doctrine was issued at the time when many Latin American countries were on the verge of becoming independent from Spain and the United States hoped to avoid having any European power take Spain’s colonies.

    15. rosouljah Says:

      The Monroe Doctrine …
The Monroe Doctrine was a United States policy introduced on December 2, 1823, which said that further efforts by European governments to colonize land or interfere with states in the Americas would be viewed by the United States of America as acts of aggression requiring US intervention.

    16. rosouljah Says:

      Don’t Blame it on …
Don’t Blame it on Obama, Bush and the Republicans were using those measures long before Obama was even a candidate for the presidency. It has always been the MO of the US gov’t, whether they be Republicans or Democrats. What is happening in Venezuela is true democracy and up until a few days ago in honduras too. Military intervention in Latin America is the way the US protects the elites’ interests. Recognize!

    17. NReily89 Says:

      We are using …
We are using protectionist measures because we have a President who thinks he’s leveling the playing field by doing so. South and Latin America is becoming a mess and what has been going on in Venezuela and Honduras prove it. I don’t care if you came to Canada from the 1973 coup in Chile. Free market principles failed because of the type of left-wing leaders than are leading there now. You cannot honestly believe they are doing good for the continent unless you are blind by your ideology.

    18. SNUFFsurgeryNEWS Says:

It is just so sick. …
It is just so sick. Catholics are involved in abortion and are as thick as thieves We can only conclude the pope is just the “fluff” and not the rough of ending the murder mentality status worldwide.

EX-COMMUNICATE or we will leave you to the freaks!

    19. rosouljah Says:

      And you know best …
And you know best for Latin America? Which Latin American country are you from? Oh yeah, you’re from the USA. I’m from Chile and ended up coming to Canada as a result of the CIA backed military coup in 1973. If Free Trade works so well why does the United States contradict their own economic policies by using protectionist meassures? HMM! I wonder why?

    20. NReily89 Says:

      You still have not …
You still have not rebutted the point. If money down the chain is going to any group that then in turn can provide the money or support to another group in the coalition that supports Abortion, the Abortion cause is being supported. This is wrong, plain and simple. I have a feeling you are in someway connected to D & P and you comments regarding economic policy have made that clearer. Free Trade is different than IMF or World Bank prime pumping. Liberation Theology is destroying Latin America.

    21. rosouljah Says:

      No! D&P money is …
No! D&P money is going to groups that support other groups in coalitions on advocacy matters not related to abortion. Also, your assumption that the Global South needs Free Trade is very eurocentric and western and exemplifies how out of touch you are with the grassroots in Latin America. In fact neo-liberal economic policy is contributing more and more to their poverty. This has even been stated by Jeffrey Sachs who works with the IMF and World Bank. D&P does not support abortion!

    22. NReily89 Says:

      Money is going to …
Money is going to groups, that in turn are supporting groups that have projects that support Abortion. The Church should avoid the appearance of evil at all costs. Why not pick organizations that have NO ties at all to Abortion? The D&P cannot be
“standing in solidarity with the Global South” if it is in anyway directly or implicitly helping groups that have an agenda that works in opposition to what the Global south needs, Free Trade. Abortion does not work in hand with meeting this goal.

    23. rosouljah Says:

      Coalitions work on …
Coalitions work on advocacy together, it does not necessarily mean that monies are being transfered between them. The allegation is that money is being given to organizations that support abortion. If you analyze it closely this is not the case. My agenda is truth and to walk in solidarity with the people of the Global South. That’s my agenda. I’m up front and honest about it. I signed up on youtube so that I could contest the false allegations against D&P? Does when I sign up matter? Why?

    24. NReily89 Says:

      rosouljah: If you …
rosouljah: If you are giving money to an organization that is then involved with groups that are supporting something that is immoral, you are still supporting something that is immoral. The bad guys are still getting dollars. This is why parishes in the states have stopped supporting organizations like relay for life which in turn gives money to pro-abortion groups. Grant money gets transferred around organizations all the time. Your sign up time was YESTERDAY, so what is your agenda???

    25. rosouljah Says:

      Oh yeah, I also …
Oh yeah, I also need to mention that who ever put the video together for Lifesite spelled COMALETZIN wrong under Ofelia Pastrana’s name. Perhaps they should fix that, or better yet SOURCE the CORRECT organization: CADEM (Again, not a D&P partner)!
