Fatalism is the crutch to human development in every country – rich or poor.

Wheresoever ye may be, death will overtake you, even though ye were in lofty towers. Yet if a happy thing befalleth them they say: This is from Allah; and if an evil thing befalleth them they say: This is of thy doing (O Muhammad). Say (unto them): All is from Allah. What is amiss with these people that they come not nigh to understand a happening? [Qur'an 4:78]

When a person decides that divine powers have ultimate control of their lives, then they stop taking responsibility for changing their own lives or improving their own situation. Muslim people are the greatest source in human development today. If only they put more emphasis on education rather than religion, they would be able to create great technology and market that science to non-muslim people.

If Muslims put an end to fatalism – even if this means keeping their religion or leaving their religion behind – they would be able to develop wealth within their own communities.

Uh, i think “since 1100 AD” is a little bit too harsh.
They managed to build huge bronze cannons and lay siege on Vienna in 1683.
Yet i generally tend to agree with the importance of the Bagdad kalifate and the course it gave Islam.

I know I shouldn’t worry about what could have been, but if throughout time people devoted their lives to science and technology rather than religion… well that’s what I’m getting at.

they all are, the problem with Islam is that it has reverted to ancient fundamentals, as opposed to championing its enlightened days of the 8th-13th centuries… had it stayed the course, we would have landed on the moon in the 1800s, we would live on Mars right now, and every child would know algebra… unfortunately, we live in a god damned mess
